Have you ever wondered:

What can music sound like without a piano, guitar, or drum kit?

What happens when a musician sits down with a computer, a few synthesizers, a modular system, a microphone—or even just a handful of cables? Can these things become instruments?

That’s where electronic music gets interesting.

Electronic music is far from a recent invention. In the mid-20th century, composers began experimenting with magnetic tape, electronic oscillators, and early electronic equipment to create sounds that traditional instruments simply couldn’t produce. As synthesizers, drum machines, samplers, computers, and digital technology evolved, so did the music.

Today, electronic music can take countless forms—from House, Techno, and Drum & Bass to Ambient, Industrial, Noise, Experimental, Modular, and Generative Music.

Different styles, different tools, different ways of listening.

But underneath it all is a simple question: What else can sound become?

This Projects Collaboration of Enlightening Synth Arts × Kěting brings together three artists with very different approaches to electronic music. On one afternoon, they’ll each take the stage with a complete live performance and offer their own answer.

mafmadmaf

Think of his music as a living sound system.

mafmadmaf works extensively with modular synthesizers and generative systems, creating environments where sounds, rhythms, and textures can shift and evolve in real time.

Instead of following a fixed musical path, his performances allow sounds to interact, change, and sometimes surprise even the person making them.

You might notice a tiny sound slowly growing into something much larger—or discover layers of texture hiding inside what initially seems almost silent. His music is like watching a sonic ecosystem grow.

TheLastbossProject

If mafmadmaf is observing a sound ecosystem, LASTBOSS is more like driving a sound machine at full speed. His work moves across experimental electronics, breakcore, industrial, noise, ambient, and drone.

Fast rhythms, heavy textures, digital distortion, dense layers of sound, and sudden shifts in intensity can all appear in his performances. But just as quickly, the music can slow down and open into something darker, spacious, and atmospheric. Machines, rhythm, speed, and distortion constantly change shape in his hands.

CHUNYANG YAO

Chunyang Yao enters electronic music from a very different place: the body, the voice, the environment, and everyday materials. A breath. A voice. A friction. The sound of touching or moving an ordinary object.

These tiny physical sounds can become the starting point for a performance. Through microphones, amplification, and electronic processing, sounds that might normally go unnoticed can be enlarged, transformed, and placed into a completely new sonic environment. Her work asks what happens when the body and the world around us become part of an electronic instrument.

Three Artists. Three Approaches. Three Sonic Worlds.

This is not a children’s music show disguised as electronic music. Each artist will perform a complete 30-minute live set allowing the music to unfold in its full for with all its complexity, energy, texture, and unpredictability.

After each performance, there will also be a short Artist Talk, where the musicians can share what they were using, where their sounds came from, how they sample and build their sets, and what goes into creating a live electronic performance.

The show takes place at 3:00 PM and is open to audiences ages 6 and up. It’s a child-friendly electronic music experience, but it isn’t a class, a workshop, or a lesson.Kids and adults will experience the same performances, in the same room, without simplifying the music for younger listeners.

About the Projects

Enlightening Synth Arts is an art platform initiated by Enlightening, focusing on live‑electronic creation and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Kě Tīng Project is a live‑performance series curated and produced by musician Yao Chunyang. It aims to showcase the diversity of sound. Encompassing the realm of music, it transcends the boundaries of conventional musical tones, delivering a sequence of live shows that break through auditory inertia.
